A subject you’ve enjoyed studying this semester

One of my favorite subjects this semester is the psychiatry course. This course has a synchronous mode. It is taught in two blocks of one hour each, each block being taught by a different teacher. In the first block we are taught by a psychiatrist and in the second by a psychologist. I usually take notes on both classes on the computer. I feel more comfortable taking notes on the computer in this class because it is faster and more comfortable to rewrite some point of the subject that I missed during the class. Among the main contents that have been seen in the psychiatry course during this semester are topics such as models and theories of Medicine and Psychology, the relationship between Psychiatry, Neurosciences and Clinical Psychology, the origins of psychiatry, the perspective of diagnosis, psychiatric classifications, and the principles of psychopharmacology. I must say that I chose the psychiatry course as one of my favorites this semester because of its content and methodology,...

One of my favorite psychologists

Lev Semyonovich Vygotsky (1896 - 1934). He was a psychologist of Russian nationality. He was a great writer; his publications covered such topics as child development, education, psychology of art and language development. He was a key author in developmental psychology, also made significant contributions in the field of neurophysiology and of course among the most important things he did,Vygotsky, was the foundation of the historical-cultural psychological approach.   One of his main theories and the one that interests me most is the Sociocultural theory of cognitive development. This theory emphasizes the idea that the proactive and collaborative interaction of children with their environment results in the correct cognitive development in the child. In other words, it holds that children develop their learning through activities that they perform in a shared manner, allowing them to internalize the thought and behavior structures of the society in which they are immersed, appro...

Choosing a photo as my favorite was difficult to me because there are so many beautiful moments I have lived with my family and friends. From all of them I chose this photo as one of my favorites. This photo shows me (the youngest) and my cousin who is three years older than me playing at my grandparents' house. When my mom took the picture, approximately in the year two thousand, I was two years old and she was five years old.  Of all the photos I could choose this one  means the most to me. Since we were little my cousin and me were raised as sisters, we were always together playing and creating new games and obviously getting into trouble. That's why we were always close and still are, in other words, she is still there for me when I need her and I like to say that I am there for her too. I know that whenever we need each other we will be there for each other.

My favorite piece of technology

My favorite piece of technology is my kindle.  My mother gave it to me when I turned thirteen, I remember that I discovered my love of reading that year.  My kindle is a device that is meant to be a portable e-book reader. This device does not have a camera or a gaming application but it is perfect for reading e-books because it uses an electronic ink screen, which I like because I can read without the pain of exposure to the LED screen light us ually used by electronics such as cell phones or tablets.  I like to use the kindle to read some e-book on my to-do list whenever I can, which is not much because I have to study a lot haha. I feel comfortable reading in the kindle because when I read it feels like I'm reading a book on printed paper without the hassle of the sun's reflection when I read in the yard or the eye strain of artificial light.   If I didn't have my kindle, I guess I would read on my cell phone or on the computer because I don't like to b...

Why did you choose this career?

When I was younger my dream was to become a great veterinarian. As I grew up I realized that my dream career wasn´t really to be a veterinarian. As a teenager I thought about studying medicine but I also threw it away. There were so many possibilities and I didn't want to just pigeonhole myself into a career. During high school, the career of psychology also crossed my mind but I wasn´t  clear about it. When I finished high school I took half a year to clear my head and think about what I really wanted to study and of course decide what I would work on for the rest of my life.  At the end of the year I realized that the career of psychology was what I most wanted to study above all else. I applied to several universities with my score thinking about staying in psychology at one of the state universities and as a joke I applied to the Academic High School Program as my first option thinking that I wouldn´t stay since my score wasn´t that high. When I saw that I stayed in ...

My autobiography - Who am I?

My name is Constanza Parra and I was born in Santiago. I am currently twenty-two years old and have lived all my life in the town of Pomaire.  In elementary school, I studied at the San Agustin School in Melipilla. Later, I finished my schooling at the Marambio School, also located in the city of Melipilla. I entered the university in the year two thousand and seventeen to study pedagogy in philosophy, shortly after that I left the career and entered a pre-university in Santiago. The following year he entered the University of Chile where he finished his Bachelor's degree, majoring in Humanities and Social Sciences and entered the career of psychology at the same university. At present, I live in the town of Pomaire with my family. Most of my family lives less than a block away. My favorite hobbies are listening to music, cooking and reading.  Last but not least, I have three cats and a dog and I love them.
